How to Cure Toenail Fungus

           How to Cure Toenail Fungus

Bare feet! Great fun of course if you have beautiful healthy nails and can wear a nice colour, but some girls suffer from fungal nails.

Lots of people suffer from fungal nails, usually, you only get it at an older age, but young girls also suffer from fungal nails.

Boys too by the way, just in case you think you are immune!

What are they actually, how do you get them, and most importantly, how do you get rid of them? Prevention of course is always better than the cure. So, be careful where you walk on those bare feet.

                         What is a fungal nail?

There are various bacteria in our body. Not all bacteria are bad by definition, you need bacteria to keep your body healthy. But when the balance is disrupted, some bacteria can continue to grow and cause problems. The same can happen in the nails of your fingers or toes.

This is called a fungus / fungal nail. A fungal nail is thickened, discoloured and crumbly.

When do you suffer from a fungal nail?

- Your nails are brittle

- The shape of your nail changes

- Crumbling of the outer edges

- Debris under the nail

- Loss of shine

- Thickening of the nail

- White or yellow streaks

- The nail rises from the footbed

                                     What causes fungal nails?

Fungal nails are usually caused by a fungal infection. Usually, the skin becomes infected with a fungus first and then the nail. For example, your feet can become infected in shower rooms, sports clubs, swimming pools and saunas. Chances are greatest in warm and humid areas.

Fungal nails usually occur in older people, they are 30x more likely to get nail fungus. An explanation for this is that the older you get, the slower your toenails grow, the more likely the fungus is to infect the nail.

People with reduced resistance are also more likely to get fungal nails.
How can you treat fungal nails?
Most importantly, what is the best thing to do if you suffer from fungal nails?

It is first of all important that you have a doctor determine that you have fungal nails. A sample is then taken of your nail and this is sent to a laboratory, after which it can be determined whether you actually suffer from a fungal nail.

                           Breathable Socks

You really should purchase good quality cotton or linen socks and never wear polystyrene socks. They just make your feet sweaty and more open to fungus, whereas pure cotton or linen will allow feet to breathe, your nails too. You can read more about it here.
